Infrared technology was used in WiZ lights from 2016 to around 2019~2020. For this reason, the WiZmote produced at the time used infrared LEDs to communicate with the lights, instead of Wi-Fi.

The infrared WiZmote is still supported today, but only on the legacy lights that embedded an infrared receiver at the time of manufacturing. It is a directional remote (you need to point at the light you want to control) with a beam angle of around 30°, and it does not require any pairing in the app.

Because of technological limitations, any light supporting infrared and within beam range will reply to the remote control commands, and it is not possible to filter out or add any light.
