In order to execute the schedules at the correct time for your location, WiZ needs to know in what area your home is located. However, we do not need an exact location and took all possible steps to ensure the privacy and safety of your data:
- When you set up your first schedule using sunrise or sunset, we ask for the permission to access your phone location (you may have already granted this during pairing)
- The app gets the GPS coordinates of your phone, and immediately rounds them up to the degree. For example, if your GPS gives us 37°50'49.7"N 111°01'33.3"W, we round this up as 38°N 111°W.
- This places your home within a large area (111x111km at the Equator, 111x44km on the polar circles, or in miles 69x69mi at the Equator and 69x27mi on the polar circles). This is enough for us to calculate sunrise and sunset times in our Cloud
- The app sends the rounded coordinates to the Cloud via a fully encrypted connection, for scheduling purposes only. The exact coordinates are immediately discarded by the app, and never leave your phone
At any time, you can view your home approximate location in Settings > home > Edit home. If necessary, you can edit it (we will then check your current phone location), or delete it.
Note that if you delete the home location, your sunrise/sunset schedules will not be able to run anymore.
